The Next Group

More blocks from the Farmer's Wife quilt.  I'm using civil war fabrics with a wide assortment of different fabrics.  The book starts with a block and then the story about a particular Farmer's Wife.  But the block may be numbered #24.  In the back of the book are the blocks all numbered correctly.  A bit confusing...which doesn't help my poor little confused brain! I haven't been real choosy yet as to the colors I've used as I don't have enough blocks made to see if I have too much or not enough of any color.  This is Kitchen Woodbox  #54

It looks a little washed out in the picture and in real life it's still kind of washed out.  Not making another so it will just have to do.  It's been interesting in our group to see the fabrics the others are using and how they made their choices.  My first block took me two hours.  The second two took me three hours...don't know if I'm improving or not.

Farmer's Wife Quilts

I loved the quilt these blocks were taken from...but the book is much to be desired.  It has good pictures and a nice story of each block....but the patterns are on a cd and one template to each page.   There are 111 different blocks and if you count all the different shapes....yikes!!  We have a group of us from the Blue Earth Valley Quilters that are making the quilt and we are blessed (make that really really blessed to have Mike making sense out of each block and giving us the measurements.)  I don't think I would even tackle this if not for him.  We get together each month and show the blocks we've made.   There is no pressure to make any or all....just you choose and do your thing.  This was the first block I made:  Cut Glass Dish #21

I've found my  blocks lay so much nicer if I open up the seam....less bulk and did I mention these blocks finish at 6"?  Don't know if I'll make all 111, but I'll see.

Good Season

Thought you'd like to see this.  Brandon's 8th grade basketball team.  They've sure been fun to watch.  Will be interesting to see how they do as they get into high school.  I don't think they've lost a game this year...if they have it wasn't at any game we saw.  I think they were playing Lake Crystal and got this score...but I could be wrong...they all kind of blur together. 
I'm slowing down on blogs for a while....have a lot to do...but I'll post a few .  Jolyn

That Time of Year Again

Here we go again...lefsa day.  We've found the best time to do this to get the maximum number of people is to do it after church on a Sunday.  Volunteers furnish the meal and then the fun begins.  Here Eythan is teaching Victoria how to roll.  And she stuck with it all day.  Train them young!!

If we didn't have the youth to help it wouldn't get done!  They are very good at it...and where else can you take pictures of guys in aprons!

This was new this year.  Gerhald rigged this sausage stuffer to run the dough through.  Kim is cutting them to size and throwing (and I mean throwing) them in flour in each of the containers.  Then Julie and myself roll them in the flour and put them on trays.

After the "burners" are done...the lefsa is laid out to cool.

Other than talking...they are taking the lefsa and making a round ball out of them.

One of the more important tasks...buttering and putting brown sugar on the rejects for the workers to eat.  I'm so spoiled that I only like lefsa when it's fresh like this!  Lutefisk supper is Sunday...February 5th.  If you can't come...you can probably smell the lutefisk from where you live!!
